You park your car within the glow of the streetlight, pull on your coat, and close the door. Small groups of twos and threes walk along the nearby sidewalk – they all walk uniformly in the same direction. The Theatre marquee shimmers in the dark, pulling the eye to see what the latest show is.

The ticket is checked and you begin towards your seat under the dim incandescent lights, a detour is made to grab a snack and something to drink. You know the rest of the story – the velvet cushions, the smartly dressed staff, the droning of dozens of conversations around you as you wait, the eventual dimming of lights… The music, the hypnotic passing of time, the laughs, the smiles… Eventually, the night ends as you snap back to reality with the turn of the ignition.

For others, the night started well beforehand – this is the business of show, after all.
