Standing on the stage, I’m met with a whirlwind of feathers, sequins, and a cacophony of vocal exercises. Old and young, thick and thin–the talented performers and volunteers are a refreshing representation of their community. As voices begin to “hum” and “ha” in unison, I realize I had better don a costume or get out of the way — the “Cabaret Follies” is beginning.
The dress rehearsal carries with it an air of vibrancy and enthusiasm, but also professionalism and discipline. Throughout of the night, the audience will witness a carefully timed and orchestrated performance–what they won’t see are the countless costume changes, shuffling, and quiet restraint occurring in the wings. Unfortunately, this week’s pictures capture fewer of the backstage happenings – there was simply too much magic on the stage to ignore.
Take a look. Enjoy a rare perspective of the magic in the works.
