023: Squirrel Murals, Pt 1

Painting “Going Places” by Shelly Metzger

The Broad Strokes Project had spent the last four years canvassing Longview, Washington’s blank walls with hundreds of shades. Embellished across downtown, subjects ranged from historical performers, ethereal botany, landscape scenes, and plenty of fauna. But for this squirrel-loving town, something was missing.

Enter the meticulous and visionary mind of Shelly Metzger. In quick work, the blank grey wall behind Elam’s Home Furnishing was transformed into a technicolor portal to a squirrel bridge. By simply passing through, one can join three eastern grey squirrels on their journey across the road.

Shelly Metzger is an enterprising artist and muralist – view more of her work, or contact her for your own mural, at her website or social media.
